All-female team will run 170 miles for substance abuse awareness
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Team Inspire, an all-female group formed to help families coping with mental health issues and substance abuse, will run more than 170 miles this spring to raise awareness for their causes.
The “Ice Breaker Run” will begin in Roanoke Rapids on May 4 and end in Surf City three days later. The group plans to cover more than 50 miles per day. Along the way, they will bring substance abuse and mental health awareness to nearby communities.
The runners will celebrate the successful completion of their journey with a finish party at Soundside Park in Surf City on May 7 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Guests and supporters are welcome to attend.
Team Coordinator Rebecca Moxey, a two-time Ironman, encourages everyone to “like” the team’s Facebook event page to better encourage the runners and keep track of their progress.
Moxey said that she is a recovering alcoholic celebrating more than 10 years of sobriety. In a news release, she discussed why Team Inspire wants to “pay it forward” to NC communities struggling with the same challenges.
“For more than five years, the ladies of Team Inspire have been quietly helping each other through a variety of very difficult and emotional issues–mental and physical illness, addiction, PTSD, and suicide, to name a few,” she said. “Now, our hope has grown, so we want to share it with others.”
