Columbus County boxer wins regional Silver Gloves title to advance to nationals

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Israel Chavez lives just outside of Tabor City. For Chavez, Wilmington is the big city. He’s now heading from the Port City to the Show Me State.

Based on his performance in the big city this weekend Chavez has earned the right to box in the National Silver Gloves Boxing Championship next month in Missouri.

Chavez beat Edward Rojas of Florida in the title bout Saturday night of the Southeast Silver Gloves 100 pound weight class for 14/15 year olds at the Armory on Carolina Beach Road.
