Ice and snow lead to power outages
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — As of Monday night, only a few scattered outages had been reported throughout New Hanover County. We spoke with Progress Energy spokesman David McNeill, who said, fortunately, there have been no major power outages in southeastern North Carolina yet, but Progress Energy has a storm plan and full crew in place.
“We are prepared for whatever storm may arrive. We know that ice can pose a potential hazard and may cause power outages if we see an accumulation of ice falling that may weigh down tree limbs that could fall across power lines,” said McNeill.
McNeill said all power outages and downed lines should be reported immediately to 1-800-419-6356. He said never touch a downed line and always assume it is energized even if the power appears to be out in the area.
