Murder mysteries and marketing tips

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Saturday’s dreary weather played right into the Cape Fear Crime Festival. The writing festival is up and running again for the first time in four years.

Writers and readers spent Saturday at the library discussing writing tips, marketing strategies and how to hide bodies… Don’t worry, it’s just fiction.

Although anyone could attend, most festival go-ers were focused on murder mysteries.

Author and festival organizer Judy Nichols took time to share some advice with us. “First thing to do is, write the best that you can. Make time to do it; make it a priority. The second thing is, seek people out who can help you.”

A professional book editor was on site to give aspiring authors pointers on how to avoid common manuscript mistakes. Panels were held throughout the day on topics like promotion and transitioning from paperback to e-readers.
