FIRST ON 3: Leland councilman charged with domestic assault

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland Police arrested a Leland Town Councilman over the weekend for domestic violence.

In a news release, Leland Police Chief Tim Jayne said officers responded to a domestic violence call Saturday. Shortly after speaking with the victim police located the suspect and arrested Herbert Barnes.

Barnes is in the Brunswick County Jail. He is charged with assault on a female/domestic assault.

He is scheduled to be back in court April 18.
