Wilmington woman accused of running over boyfriend
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington woman is accused of driving over her boyfriend after he threatened to break up with her.
Wilmington Police say 26-year-old Jennifer Mendez ran over 30-year-old Tony McMillan after an argument. It happened in the Jervay Community on Sugar Ray Leonard Drive around 7:30 Thursday morning.
McMillan was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Police arrested Mendez and charged her with felony hit and run.
McMillan’s aunt says she heard about what happened but did not want to give her name.
“He was standing there by the tree and a Jeep came along, hopped the curve and hit him,” McMillan’s aunt said. “It broke his leg in two places.”
McMillan’s aunt says he had to have surgery on his left leg to insert a metal rod.
Mendez is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Detention Center.
