Four-year-old girl attacked by pit bull; Airlifted to hospital

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – A four-year-old Pender County girl was attacked by a pit bull according to the sheriff’s department.

A Pender County Animal Control manager says it happened off of Piney Woods Road, which is a few miles outside of Burgaw.

He says the girl was taken by helicopter to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with multiple bite and puncture wounds. Ther is no word on her condition.

The dog is being held at Animal Control right now and will be isolated for ten days while it is checked for rabies.

Investigators say the dog was chained up, so they’re not sure if the owner will face any legal issues.
