Altman pleads guilty in 2009 murders of mother, stepfather
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man accused of killing two family members has pleaded guilty.
This morning Gerard Altman pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree murder. He killed his mother and her husband in their Ogden home back in 2009.
Judge Phyllis Gorham sentenced Altman to two consecutive life sentences.
The DA’s office says the evidence in the case was strong enough to find Altman guilty if it went to trial, but prosecutors are satisfied with todays outcome.
“This was a case that was shocking in its brutality, and the only appropriate place for Mr. Altman is in a prison cell for the rest of his life,” DA Ben David said. “Today we ensured that result by having him plead guilty to two counts of first degree murder.”
Prosecutors say family members of the victims are satisfied with the life sentence.
