Durham cat shelter reduces prices for adoptions
DURHAM, NC (AP) – Cat lovers are being offered a discount on
kittens at the Durham Animal Shelter.
The Herald-Sun of Durham reports surplus supply of felines has
prompted an adoption fair through June 25.
Shelter manager Shafonda Price says mating season often
increases the shelter’s population, but the 147 cats now being
cared for is double the number that the shelter is equipped to
serve.
Fees are being lowered as an incentive. Special giveaways for
adoptive families are also planned.
The offer includes a double feature: two cats for a single $80
fee.
The fees go toward necessary shots and other medical needs.
Price says the shelter will lose money on the lower-priced
adoptions, so she is asking donors to pitch in cash to make up the
difference.
