Morganton woman charged with driveway killing

NEBO, NC (AP) — A Morganton woman has been charged with murder
in the shooting death of a man in a driveway.

McDowell County sheriff’s deputies have charged 36-year-old
Treeva McPeters Rooks in the death of 39-year-old Mark Anthony
Sawyer of Nebo.

Sheriff’s Capt. Shannon Smith says Sawyer was shot in the chest
around 4 p.m. Sunday not far from his home..

Smith says the shooting apparently followed a neighborhood
dispute.

Rooks was being held at the McDowell County jail. It wasn’t
clear if she has an attorney.
