Perdue’s energy panel slated to meet in Raleigh

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — The Governor’s Scientific Advisory Panel on
Offshore Energy is meeting in Raleigh.

Gov. Beverly Perdue’s office says the panel is meeting Friday at
the North Carolina Energy Office.

The panel is planning to talk about potential findings and
recommendations in preparation of its report to Perdue.

Perdue created the panel in response to a proposed five-year
federal oil and gas leasing program for the sale of leases off the
Atlantic coast. That proposal has since been scrapped, largely due
to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
