Dean of Duke business school leaves for China

DURHAM, NC (AP) — Duke University’s business school dean is
leaving less than two months after faculty members rejected his
proposal for graduate courses at a new campus in China.

The Durham Herald-Sun reported Tuesday that Fuqua Business
School dean Blair Sheppard will begin working in fundraising and
business development for Duke-Kunshan University in Kunshan, China.

Sheppard has been dean of the school since 2007. He will be
replaced by deputy dean William Boulding.

Sheppard was considered a champion of the Chinese campus, and
his departure marks another in a series of personnel changes in
Duke leadership working on the project.

Some faculty members have express reservations about the scope,
risks and cost of developing the 200-acre campus near Shanghai,
which is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012.
