Shoplifter struck and killed in Asheville

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 21-year-old shoplifter
running from police has been struck and killed by a car in
Asheville.

Investigators said Charles Halulko was being chased by loss
prevention officers from Kmart last week when he ran down an
embankment and was hit by a vehicle. He died from his injuries
Sunday.

Authorities say a second man who was with Halulko ran a
different direction and was arrested a short time later.

Police say the driver of the car that hit Halulko will not face
charges.
