Hot tar spill slows MLK

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An 18-wheeler caused a hot mess on Martin Luther King Parkway near Kerr Ave. this morning.

Wilmington Police say water somehow leaked into the tank carrying hot paving tar. The two don’t mix well together, and a safety valve caused a spillover on eastbound MLK.

Crews arrived on the scene around 7 a.m. causing the parkway do narrow down to one lane.

No one was hurt, and no other vehicles were involved.
