Public discusses how to alter downtown Wilmington sign regulations

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The debate and discussion continue over the current downtown window sign regulations. A public meeting was held tonight to talk about hot button issues and results from a recent online survey.

During the meeting folks, were split up into groups to brainstorm and draft recommendations on how to alter the city’s current sign regulations. Business owners had the chance to have their voices heard.

“We’re the ones who are affected,” said Clark Hipp. “Business owners, residents and just the general public, but I think it’s important we come out and voice our concerns.”

Another hotly debated issue was the percentage of glass coverage on businesses’ windows. The current ordinance has it as ten percent but businesses say that isn’t enough.

The drafted recommendations will be presented at a second meeting on February 16th from 5:30 to 7:30 in the Wilmington City Hall chambers.
