St. Patrick’s Day revelers buzz heads for cancer research

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– Hundreds came out to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Fibber’s Public House on Saturday. Not all of them were there for the green beer.

Around 80 people shaved their heads, raising nearly $30,000 to benefit cancer research for children.

Cancer survivors were on hand shaving some of their loved ones as well.

Love is Bald, a local non-profit, teamed up with St. Baldricks for the event.

“We’ve had so much local support. We have the Sea Dawgs out here, Cape Fear Roller Girls, Fibbers has been amazing,” said Kelli Russell from Love is Bald. “Just so much local support, it’s overwhelming.”

Among the 80 or so people that had their heads shaved were two 14-year-olds, a 6-year-old and nine women.
