Authorities seize more than 100 dogs from NC home

MORGANTON, N.C. (AP) – Deputies in Burke County have seized 105 dogs and puppies from a Morganton home where authorities were preparing to post a notice that the animals weren’t in compliance with their rabies tags.

The News-Herald of Morganton reported that Sheriff Steve Whisenant said Monday deputies were at the home of 50-year-old Larry Buff when they discovered a warrant out for his arrest on a charge of assault by pointing a gun. Deputies saw the conditions the dogs were living in and returned with warrants to seize them.

Authorities said 25 of the dogs were puppies younger than six weeks old. Deputies called the conditions at the home “ihhumane.”

Toni Davis of Burke County Friends for Animals said some of the dogs have medical conditions and will have to be euthanized.
