Autopsy shows man involved in Leland officer shooting severely impaired
LELAND, NC (WWAY) – The Brunswick County District Attorney confirms the autopsy of Brent Quinn reveals he had a blood alcohol content of more than three times the legal limit.
Quinn’s BAC was .26, the legal limit is .08.
On December 9, Leland Police Officer Jacob Schwenk was responding to a drunk driver call on Bridgeport Way in the Windsor Park neighborhood.
Investigators say as Ofc. Schwenk approached, Quinn pulled out a 9mm handgun and began firing. Ofc. Schwenk was shot 6 times, multiple times in the legs. Police say Schwenk was also shot in the chest, but he was wearing a bullet proof vest.
Schwenk managed to shoot and kill Quinn while Quinn was coming toward him. Schwenk shot Quinn six times, twice in the face.
Another Leland officer who responded applied a tourniquet to Schwenk’s leg, ultimately helping save his life.
In January, District Attorney Jon David held a news conference to reveal the shooting was justified.
