Leland man pleads guilty to breaking into homes

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — On Monday, a Leland man pleaded guilty to breaking into three homes in Wilmington between 2013 and 2016.

Judge Imelda Pate sentenced Alex Lee Beavers, 31, as a habitual felon to between 7 and 8 1/2 years in prison. He was also ordered to pay restitution to his victims.

On November 19, 2013, Beavers broke into a home on Mulberry Avenue and stole a television. Beavers’ fingerprints were found at the scene.

He was also convicted of breaking into two apartments on Creecy Avenue in 2016. On July 24, a resident of an upstairs apartment saw Beavers inside her home via surveillance video. The resident wasn’t home, but was able to see him in real time on her cell phone.

Wilmington Police responded and found Beavers hiding behind a boat in the backyard.

Property belonging to the downstairs apartment was located on the back porch.

Beavers admitted to breaking into the downstairs apartment the day before as well as on that night.

Beavers’ prior convictions include felony breaking and entering, felony larcenies, felony drug offenes and fleeing to elude arrest.
