Healing Within Health Fair targets LGBTQIA community

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Health Department hosted the Healing Within Health Fair Saturday.

The event was at St. Jude’s Metropolitan Community Church and targeted LGBTQIA health.

There were more than 15 organizations available for any questions. The event featured an hour long panel discussion for those who wanted to learn more about issues effecting the LGBTQIA community.

“Hopefully people are inspired to be smart and get tested if they are sexually active, but most importantly, take charge of their health,” Richelle Fonville, New Hanover County Health Department HIV Health Educator.

The health department offered free HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis C testing on site.

She says the health department sees a high rate of HIV cases so this was a chance to address the issue and raise awareness about prevention.
