Work continues around historic graves in Holly Ridge

HOLLY RIDGE, NC (WWAY) — After we spoke with neighbors last month about some disturbed graves in Holly Ridge, they say things are looking better for the cemetery.

In February, we told how how people like Lori Emory were concerned that construction of The Preserve neighborhood was getting close to and had disturbed some tombstones of her family.

A few days after our original story aired, we spoke with the developer  who claimed when he had the land originally surveyed and platted, the graves were left in a separate area and have not been impacted by the work.

Emory now says that permits have been filed with the city to acknowledge the area as a historic site.  Emory also says the developer intends to keep the area preserved with a fence around the grave sites.
