Old School vs New School concert bringing generations together

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Whether you wanted to listen to T.I.’s “Bring Em Out or “Touch Me, Tease Me” by Case, you could hear all generations of music at this concert.

Coast 97.3 put on a massive concert for the people of Wilmington at the Greenfield Lake Amphitheater.

In collaboration with the North Carolina Azalea Festival, the “Old School vs New School” concert brought generations of music together.

Coast Program Director, Brandon Hickman, says that an event like this is the perfect family event.

“We’re Old School and New School. So if the entire family is here, mom and dad got their favorite artist and then the kids got their favorite artist as well,” Hickman said.

The concert included performances from artists like Case, DJ Luke Nasty, 69 Boyz and Wilmington native Ricco Barrino.

Barrino was ecstatic to perform in Wilmington during the Azalea Festival and says concerts like this show progress and acceptance.

“To me, it spells out change. To me, it says how far we have come when it comes to being a nation and being able to embrace different cultures and bring them together,” Barrino said.

According to Hickman, around 1500 people bought tickets for the event and says the vibe from the crowd is the best part of putting this all together.

“Making the audience have a great time, because that’s what they want to do, is an experience. So we want them to have the best experience they can,” Hickman said.

Many people in the audience were loving the concert and believe it is much need entertainment.

“I’m a single mom and I work all the time, so this will be something good for me,” Sharon Robinson, Wilmington resident, said.

Hickman says he hopes that next year they can keep delivering the kinds of artists the people want for the Old School vs New School concert.
