Wilmington woman charged with trying to rob Virginia bank


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington woman is in jail in Virginia for allegedly trying to rob a bank.

According to a release from the Prince William County Police Department, Amanda Renee Segura, 32, of 306 Richlieu Lane in Wilmington, is charged with attempted robbery.

Police say at 4:44 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a Wells Fargo Bank in Woodbridge, VA, to investigate an attempted robbery. Police say an employee told them an unknown woman passed a note demanding money. When the teller refused, the suspect left.

Detectives identified Segura as the suspect. They found her a short time later at a hotel in Dumfries, VA, and detained without incident.

At her arraignment today, Segura was given no bond. She is due in court again Monday to determine if she qualifies for a court appointment attorney. A trial date will also be set on Monday.

Segura has a criminal record in North Carolina that includes convictions dating back to 2011 for crimes including assault with a deadly weapon, violating a protective order, attempted forgery, perjury and larceny.
