36 years! CFCC instructor wraps up career in ceremonial fashion
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of Cape Fear Community College students walked across the stage at the Wilson Center during the graduation ceremonies on Friday. Proudly watching and leading the way was Alan Katz, who wrapped up 36 years of teaching this week at the college.

Katz carried the mace across the stage at Friday’s 1pm graduation ceremony. He began as a part time instructor in 1981 and 17 years ago became a full time instructor in the college’s paralegal program. This is his last year teaching. He told us that it has been a very rewarding experience watching his students move into the law careers.
And how about this little bit of trivia about this veteran instructor! “Dr. McLeod was the reigning president when I got here,” Katz said. “And the first president of the school. Cape Fear Technical Institute at the time. I’ve been here for every president at Cape Fear, now Community College.” >
Congratulations on a lengthy career at CFCC, Alan! A spokeswoman says more than 900 students got their degrees, diplomas and certificates from Cape Fear Community College this year.
Three ceremonies were held on Friday for the graduates at the Wilson Center.
