Couple found not guilty on animal cruelty charges

SCOLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County couple charged with cruelty to animals and failing to vaccinate for rabies was found not guilty.

Ashley and Andrew Wilson of Herbert Norris Road appeared in court Thursday after receiving 11 criminal summons each for cruelty to animals and as well as eight warrants for arrest.

In April, Columbus County Animal Control said they found the dogs with only fetid water, and some of the kennels did not appear to have been cleaned in weeks. Neighbors had called and filed complaints about two of the dogs.

According to the Columbus County Clerk of Court’s office, the Wilsons pleaded not guilty and were found not guilty of all charges. The animals were returned to them.
