Toxic chemical report plays havoc with Chemours’ stock

WILMINGTON, DE (The News Journal) — Chemours — coming off three strong quarters, a nearly $100 million profit increase and cracking the Fortune 500 — has had a tumultuous week since reports surfaced linking the company to a toxic chemical found in a North Carolina river.
The Wilmington, Delaware company, with about 1,000 workers in its home state, has been linked to the discharge of GenX into the Cape Fear River, which runs between the North Carolina cities of Fayetteville and Wilmington.
Used in the manufacturing of Chemours’ Teflon, GenX has not been produced long enough to understand its potential impact on the human body. However, GenX was selected because its toxicology profile was less than the ingredient it replaced.
