WPD: Officers fatally shoot armed man at Pine Valley home

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department responded to a fatal officer-involved shooting in the Pine Valley area Wednesday evening.

WPD says just before 7 p.m. officers responded to shots fired in the 600 block of Owens Court.

The suspect was a 62-year-old man. Police say he barricaded himself in his home with his wife. The man reportedly walked out with multiple firearms.

Officers gave him multiple commands to put down the weapons. Police say he did not comply and then officers fatally shot him.

WPD says no officers were injured.

SBI is investigating.

Police say the two officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations.

This is standard protocol any time an officer fires their service weapon.

Three investigations are ongoing. The SBI is conducting their own in conjunction with an internal review and an investigation into that initial shots fired call that the officers responded to.
