NHRMC Zimmer Cancer Center expansion complete

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover Regional has wrapped up an 18-month renovation and expansion of the Zimmer Cancer Center.

The project includes more infusion space, dedicated laboratory and pharmacy areas, exam rooms, and physician offices.

The new space allows for growth in things like hematology and chemotherapy and brings resources some say were necessary to take care of patients.

“We have tremendous physicians and a great staff,” said Oncology Service Line Administrator Henry Hawthorne. “But we’ve had a very dated facility frankly and so what it means is that we finally have a facility that can provide the services, be more comfortable for our patients and begin to match the quality of care we provide.”

The expanded infusion space includes 48 infusion chairs, which is more than triple in the original facility.
