Brunswick Co. Vice Chair appointed to NC Fire and Rescue Commission


Bolivia, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Board of Commissioners’ Vice Chairman, Randy Thompson, has been appointed to the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission.

The Fire and Rescue Commission assists and participates with state and local fire prevention and control agencies in the improvement of fire prevention and control in North Carolina.

Among other duties, the Commission works with state and local rescue agencies to improve rescue services in the state, increase the professional skills of fire protection and fire-fighting personnel and rescue personnel, provide technical assistance to state and local fire prevention and control and rescue agencies in developing programs for improvement, and establish voluntary minimum professional qualifications for all levels of fire service and rescue service personnel.

Its 16 members include representatives from 15 different organizations and individuals appointed by the Commissioner of Insurance, as well as the Executive Director. Vice Chair Thompson was appointed to represent the N.C. Association of County Commissioners.

“I’m excited about representing the Association of Counties and honored that the Commissioner of Insurance appointed me to this important position,” Vice Chair Thompson said. “With my background and experience, I think that I’ll have something to offer to not only assist our local counties, but assist the entire state as well.”

Prior to being elected to the Board of Commissioners, Randy Thompson served for more than 30 years in local government, including as Brunswick County’s Emergency Management Director. He is a past president of the North Carolina Emergency Management Association and a past commissioner of the State of North Carolina Emergency Response Commission, and currently provides consulting services to local, state and federal agencies across the country.
