Southport business trades buckets of trash for cups of coffee
SOUTHPORT, NC (StarNews) — To show their appreciation, a very satisfied customer once gave the Moore Street Market Deli and Cafe in Southport a sign that says, “The Best Coffee in Town.” Now the store owners, husband and wife Andrew Laing and Bridget Reichhart, are parlaying their coffee’s good reputation into a way to help keep Moore Street and the beach clean.
If you stop in, they will give you a bucket to collect litter from around town. When you fill up your bucket and bring it back, you can trade it in for a free cup of their “best coffee in town.”
They would like you to return your filled-up bucket within 24 hours so it can be available for another customer, but are flexible about that requirement.
Reichhart saw the idea on someone’s Facebook page and knew she wanted to do the same thing, and for the same reason. It’s not about attracting new customers, although that could be a nice side benefit; it’s about their commitment to protecting the environment and hoping their customers will join them in the effort.
