NCDOT to host drone workshop for businesses, government agencies

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Want to make drones part of your business? The North Carolina Department of Transportation wants to help.

Friday the DOT’s Division of Aviation will host a Wilmington-area workshop for commercial and government drone/Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) operators.

The DOT says it wants to educate agencies and businesses about practical ways to use the emerging technology. This workshop will focus on how drones can be used for emergency management, with other topics including flight operations, drone safety, and data management, as well as the use of drones in blasting operations and newsgathering.

This is the third in a series of free workshops the Division of Aviation will host across the state.

The free workshop is Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. In the BB&T Auditorium at the McKeithan Center on CFCC’s North Campus.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story reported that the workshop was scheduled for Friday. That was based on a news release from the DOT that the agency later corrected. We apologize for any confusion.
