Bill Engvall performing at the Wilson Center

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — Bill Engvall, founding member of the Blue Collar Comedy group, will be performing at the Wilson Center on Saturday, January 13th.

Engvall has become a successful stand-up comic as the result of his country comedy and observational satire style. In 2000, Engvall and Jeff Foxworthy launched the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, which has performed stand-up concerts on six treks across North America and the U.K., and included Ron White, who recently performed two shows at the Wilson Center. Since then, Engvall has put out six more albums, including huge hits such as 2004’s “A Decade of Laughs”, 2007’s “15° Off Cool”, and 2012’s “Them Idiots: Whirled Tour with Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy”.

Engvall attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, but later left school and worked as a tour guide and disc jockey before trying his hand at stand-up comedy in Dallas. Engvall moved to southern California in 1990 to pursue comedy full time, and there he hosted A&E’s “An Evening at the Improv,” as well as performing stand-up on “The Tonight Show” and the “Late Show with David Letterman.”

In 1992, he was named Best Male Standup at the American Comedy Awards. He became a regular on Delta Burke’s ABC series, “Delta,” and later was cast alongside fellow comic Jeff Foxworthy in his NBC show.

In 1996, Engvall signed to Warner Bros. Records and released his first comedy album, entitled “Here’s Your Sign” based on his signature act. The album sold over one million copies and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Country album chart.

Tickets for the show will be available on Wednesday. You can buy them starting at 10 a.m.  online or in person at the Wilson Center’s Ticket Central beginning at 2 p.m.

Ticket prices for the performance will range from $42 to $79, plus taxes and fees.
