Confusion over Waka Flocka’s canceled concert

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Confusion is swirling around the cancellation of hip hop star Waka Flocka Flame’s concert. The rapper was supposed to perform at UNCW Wednesday night but he never did.

Hundreds of upset fans, like Thomas Graziano, went home upset.

“Very disappointed. In fact, I was saying hashtag ‘Waka Flocka Lame,'” Graziano said.

Graziano is disappointed and heartbroken for his niece with autism who is a huge fan of Waka Flocka.

“She has a lot of sensory issues where being around crowds, people touching her, you know, a big huge thing. So to go to that last night was a big huge step for her,” Graziano said.

The rapper never took the stage at UNCW’s Kenan Auditorium.

“To me it was like sit down in your seats or we’re not performing,” Graziano said.

After the opening act, those at the concert said they were told to move away from the stage, clear the aisles, and find their seats. The university said the crowd was given three warnings but no one seemed to listen.

“Nobody was following the rules so I understand why it happened. I mean it kind of stinks because we probably won’t get our money back and we all paid for that,” disappointed fan, Brittany Gallagher said.

While the crowd was asked to take their seats, a university official at the concert said Waka Flocka left the dressing room which led to the canceled show. However, Wilmington Wet Card, who put on the event, said that is not the case but would not comment any further.

“Waka put up a story on his Instagram story, like they canceled my show, and that’s all he said,” Gallagher said.

Despite the reason the show was canceled, hundreds of fans were let down.

“We wanted you there. We were so glad that you were here. But it just stinks that it happened that way,” Gallagher said.

“I don’t know whose fault it is but I think Waka Flocka Flame should have done something more. You know, he’s a major artist and he has the power to, you know, make things happen,” Graziano said.

The university has not decided whether they are going to issue refunds.

Wilmington Wet Card posted to Facebook announcing they are in communication with UNCW on how to move forward.
