Union Elementary named NC National Title 1 Distinguished School
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Union Elementary School edged out more than 1,400 other schools across the state to bring home top honors.
Union Elementary was named the 2017 NC National Title 1 Distinguished School.
According to a news release, during the 2016-2017 school year, there were 1,443 Title 1 schools in North Carolina. Only 10-percent of those schools met eligibility to be considered for this award.
Fourteen schools were selected to submit portfolios, which were narrowed down to the final four.
Last week, a review team from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction visited Union.
At a special ceremony in Greensboro,Union Elementary edged out two other elementary schools and a high school to win the top honor for high performance.
The school brought home a check for $12,500.
