Bus driver cited in Friday crash that sent students to hospital
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County school bus driver has been cited for a crash Friday that sent more than two dozen students to the hospital.
Friday afternoon two Brunswick County school buses were involved in a wreck. The collision on NC 211 sent more than two dozen students to the hospital. Now the Highway Patrol has cited the driver of the second bus, Cary Felton, who investigators say was responsible for it.
The first bus was operated by Marcia Pitroski, who Highway Patrol says stopped to make a left turn. Jeffery Mize was driving a truck and stopped behind the first bus. Mize also had a 7-year-old child in the truck with him. The second bus involved was driven by Felton, who Highway Patrol says was distracted by students on the bus and hit the truck in front of him.
Troopers cited Felton with failure to reduce speed.
Investigators say there were no life-threatening injuries.
The students on the buses were from Virginia Williamson Elementary School.
