Wilmington Christian Academy hosts field day for those with special needs
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For the second time, a group of high schoolers in the Cape Fear are giving back to the community in a fun, farm-themed way.
Instead of hosting a field day for themselves, Wilmington Christian Academy decided to host a “Farm Fest Field Day” for students and adults with special needs.
More than 500 hundred people attended the event this afternoon. The farm-themed field day was filled with games, inflatables, treats, farm animals and a hay ride.
It’s a day students and organizers are proud of.
“We want to teach our kids that life is not all about them,” Wilmington Christian Academy Student Life Coordinator Tonya Upton said. “There are many ways that they can give back and God made them to serve and to have a servant’s heart.”
Organizers say both events they’ve hosted for their friends from the New Hanover County Special Olympics have been a major success.
Wilmington Christian Academy hopes to host more “Farm Fest Field Days” in the future.
