Crews respond to fire on North Kerr Avenue, briefly closing portion of road

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Dispatch says fire crews responded to a fire Wednesday evening on 1500 block of North Kerr Avenue.

Officials at the scene say the fire was behind a vacant home.

They say someone was taking items out of the house, putting them in a debris pile out back, which then caught fire.

Dispatch say they have received numerous calls about the incident this evening shortly after 5 p.m. No one was injured and the home is intact.

The fire is still under investigation.

New Hanover County Sheriff deputies shut down lanes in both directions, but it is back open now.
