Wilmington teens accused of firing gun, having weapon on school property


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two Wilmington minors are facing charges after being found with a 9 mm handgun in the 500 block of North 15th Street Wednesday morning.

According to a news release, Wilmington Police responded to the area around 8:30 a.m. where a caller reported seeing four teens shooting the gun.

One of the minors, who is 14-years-old, said the gun belonged to his father, but another minor, who is 16-years-old, is the one who discharged the weapon.

Police say the 14-year-old had the gun on school property earlier in the day. The teens are students at New Hanover High School.

The 14-year-old is charged with possession of weapon on school grounds and possession of a weapon by a minor.

The 16-year-old is charged with discharging a firearm in the city limits.

The other two minors were not charged.
