Hundreds participate in Surf City Dolphin Dip
SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — Hundreds of people came out to Surf City for the 16th annual Dolphin Dip extravaganza on New Year’s Day.
Organizers were interested to see how many people would be watching instead of swimming this year.
It was the coldest it has ever been at the Dolphin Dip, but that didn’t stop many brave, brave souls from taking the ultimate dip.
Cold or not, some said taking part in the extravaganza is just a tradition they have to do each year, but Barbara Hair said she decided this was a great time to do it for the first time.
“2017 was a tough year for me, and I thought this would be a good way for to put the past behind me and it’s a new future and a great new year,” Hair said. “The water is warmer I hear than it is out here, so I think I have that going for me.”
Organizers said the Dolphin Dip is a fun way to “wash away” the previous year by jumping into the Atlantic Ocean.
