Former student teacher sentenced for crimes involving student
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A former New Hanover County substitute and student teacher will spend eight months behind bars after pleading guilty to three counts of indecent liberties with a child.
A judge sentenced Trisha Rogers, 47, yesterday. The District Attorney’s office says Rogers pleaded guilty last year.
Rogers also received three consecutive suspended sentences of 22-33 months. When she is released, she must register as a sex offender and will be under five years supervised probation.
Deputies arrested Rogers in July of 2016. Rogers, a student teacher at Murray Middle School at the time, used a cell phone to try and meet a 13-year-old student for a sex act.
It allegedly happened between February 29 and May 5 of 2016. The victim was a student at the school.
The New Hanover County School Spokesperson said Rogers was fired from her internship and removed from the substitute list on May 5, 2016.
