Ploof Road detour to stretch into March

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A detour for drivers in Leland will last at least about a month longer than expected.

Ploof Road is closed just off of US 17 past the Exxon and the Aldi. It was supposed to re-open no later than Feb. 9. Today Leland Economic & Community Development Director Gary Vidmar told WWAY it looks like it could take even longer.

“The last report we received from the contractor was that Ploof Road is expected to reopen in early March, subject to weather,” Vidmar said in an e-mail.

Vidmar said the project has experienced significant weather delays during the past month.

The work includes construction of a traffic circle to connect Ploof, Tradeway Drive and the new road that runs from the Walmart shopping center to Aldi.

In an update earlier this month, Vidmar said once Ploof reopens, there is more work to be done at Ploof and US 17.
