Wilmington murder investigation closed after suspect shot and killed
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – A Wilmington murder investigation is closed after the accused killer was shot and killed in New York.
Wilmington Police say on August 25, Wallace Dailey was killed during a robbery in the 1300 block of Dawson Street.

According to Dailey’s girlfriend, who was with him at the time, a light-skinned black male, later identified as Shaun Chadwick, rode up on a bicycle and asked Dailey for a light. When Dailey refused, they struggled and Chadwick shot Dailey.
Chadwick then demanded money from Dailey’s girlfriend. He took her purse and rode off on his bicycle, dropping his glasses in the process.
Dailey’s girlfriend identified Chadwick through a photo lineup. Police say investigators also interviewed several witnesses, including one who also identified Chadwick as the man riding a bike away from the scene. Another witness saw Chadwick was missing his glasses he regularly wore.
Investigators also recovered the bicycle with blood on it near the crime scene. The blood was tested and was Dailey’s.
Wilmington Police say Chadwick, also known as “South”, left North Carolina after the shooting.
Chadwick died from multiple gunshot wounds in an unrelated shooting in Monticello, New York on September 30.
Police say the case is now closed. If Chadwick were still alive, he would have been charged with first degree murder and armed robbery.
