Baby great white pings off Topsail Island coast

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A baby great white shark “pinged” off the coast of Topsail Island Tuesday afternoon.

OCEARCH tagged the baby male shark, named Bruin, last August in Montauk, New York. It is a 5’5″ and weighs just over 100 pounds.

OCEARCH is a non-profit organization with a global reach for unprecedented research on great white sharks and other large apex predators.

Since being tagged, Bruin has traveled from the Rhode Island down to North Carolina. The Cape Fear has been the farthest south the shark has pinged.

According to pings, Bruin has been swimming up and down the Carolina coast since at least December.

You can track the shark and others on the OCEARCH website.
