Man accused of stealing charity money from Leland gas station

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man Thursday after they say stole money from a jar that was intended for a charity at a gas station in Leland.

Detectives say David Robert Wells Jr. went to the Handee Hugo convenience store on Zion Church Road in Leland Sunday afternoon and took a mason jar full of change and bills that was intended for the MDA Shamrocks Charity.

The amount in the jar is unknown but it was completely full with a combination of change and bills.

Wells is charged with misdemeanor larceny. He has since bonded out of jail.
