Wilmington man accused of ramming into state trooper’s car

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is being held under a $1.5 million bond, accused of intentionally ramming into a state trooper’s patrol car.

According to 1st Sgt. Michael Baker with the NC Highway Patrol, it happened around 3:30 p.m. Sunday on NC 211.

Baker said Corey Taylor Robinson, 28, approached the trooper’s car from behind near the Columbus County line. After signaling for the trooper to pull over, Baker said Robinson pulled up next to the trooper’s vehicle, into oncoming traffic, and intentionally struck the trooper’s car.

Baker said the trooper’s patrol car was forced off the road, where Robinson then hit it a second time.

The trooper was able to get out of his patrol car and take Robinson into custody.

Baker said Robinson was taken to the Brunswick County Magistrate’s Office where he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, reckless driving, a left of center violation and speeding.

Baker has a court date later this month and again in April.

No word yet on what led to the incident.
