Wilmington mayor talks flood readiness at national conference in DC

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo is on his way home from the National League of Cities Conference in Washington D.C.

On Wednesday, Mayor Saffo spoke about the importance of making sure our infrastructure is ready for floods.

He explained the need for improving flood-prone roads and utilizing rain gardens and previous pavement.

Saffo says he supports the “flood-ready statement of principles” meant to send a message to congress that as crumbling infrastructure is upgraded it must be able to withstand the next flood.
