CCSO: Wanted felon hits deputy, found with drugs and guns

CHADBOURN, NC (WWAY) — A wanted man is now in jail after deputies say they found him inside a car in Chadbourn with a large amount of drugs and guns.

Columbus County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to WR Cribb Drive in Chadbourn Tuesday in reference to a suspicious vehicle parked in someone’s yard. When deputies arrived, they found a man inside the car. He allegedly told them a fictitious name. Columbus Central ran the name and alerted deputies that the suspect had outstanding warrants. When deputies try to arrest him, that’s when he tried to run away hitting a deputy in the process.

Deputies found drugs inside the car including a large amount of marijuana, cocaine and unknown tablets. Deputies say they also found a handgun, a .22 caliber rifle, a 20 gauge sawed off shotgun, live ammunition, digital scales, a grinder, and a large amount of packaging materials.

Detectives also located evidence linked to a multi-state investigation.

Vice-Narcotics Detectives learned the suspect’s actual name, Shonte Hutchinson, while during their investigation. The 41-year-old man from Tabor City had numerous active warrants in Stafford County, Virgina for Felony Larceny, Felony Embezzlement, Fictitious Information to an Officer, and Obtaining Property by False Pretense.

Hutchinson was arrested Wednesday. He is at the Columbus County Detention Center under at $400,000 secured bond.

1 felony count of Possession with the Intent to Sell and/or Deliver Marijuana
1 felony count of Possession with the Intent to Sell and/or Deliver Cocaine
2 misdemeanor counts of Resisting a Public Officer
1 misdemeanor count of Fictitious Information to an Officer
1 misdemeanor count of Assaulting a Government Official
