Wilmington’s interim police chief leads peace march today

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington’s Interim Police Chief Donny Williams along with area law enforcement leaders will lead a peace march Wednesday afternoon to unite area law enforcement and community members.

The Wilmington Police Department says the march, which begins at 3:00 p.m., will also be a symbol of opposition to the atrocities that happened to George Floyd on May 25 in Minneapolis.

Marchers are invited to meet at 2:45 pm at the Police Department headquarters at 615 Bess Street.

The march will begin at 3:00 pm and will proceed to the 1898 Memorial Park at 1074 N. 3rd Street.

The march will include prayer by area clergy followed by brief remarks.

Masks and social distancing will be encouraged.
