The wait is over: Local gym owner opens facility

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Some gyms are opening up across the Cape Fear and one local gym owner who’s been fighting his way back to business for weeks is happy to finally be able to legally open his doors.

Muscleworx Fitness Owner Jason Morgan has officially opened his fitness training facility in Carolina Beach Tuesday morning.

Morgan says he’s limiting the number of customers inside and cleaning frequently.

Morgan opened illegally back in March, then got a provisionally permit to open, opened briefly and was then shut back down.

Morgan says he then filed a lawsuit against the governor.

“We don’t deny that coronavirus exists,” Morgan said. “We don’t deny that it’s contagious. We just realize that there are people that need help.

The attorney general’s office says gyms can be used for medical purposes. Lawmakers are voting to pass a bill today to open gyms for recreational use.
