Fire crews battle blaze near Isabel Holmes Bridge

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Fire and New Hanover Fire departments are on the scene of a fire near the Isabel Holmes Bridge in Wilmington.

According to WFD, a large pile of tires was on fire near the Sweeney Water Treatment Plant around 2 p.m. Officials say CSX was advised of the fire on railroad tracks.

As of 2:30 p.m., firefighters were on the scene working to extinguish the fire. They say there is heavy smoke in the area so avoid it if you can.

There was also multiple smaller woods fires in the area, according to fire crews.
